Katie is right I think. Plain cotton velevet is best. Crushed velvet does have a crinkly appearance, and synthetic "velvets" and velours have a sheen to them and also attract dust and fluff. One word of warning though - cotton velvet will fade, so try and keep your material out of the light when you are not using it. I'm pretty sure you shouldn't wash real velvet, but I guess it won't get so dirty a light brushing won't sort it out. It is expensive, but worth it..

I have some old wartime black-out curtains, but even these sometimes reflect a bit of light back. I guess any reasonably close-woven cotton material would do. Good luck with it anyway!
