I am asking this on behalf of a colleague.
He is looking for a camera with long zoom. He has a budget of roughly 450.
He showed me two he shortlisted: Panasonic FZ200 and Panasonic G5 with 2 lenses.
He said he is not fuss about interchangeable Lens camera, but thought G5 is pretty good value as he can claim for a free 40-150 lens ith the current promotion.
I did a quick search and found that he can get Sony NEX 3N or Olympus EPM2 with 2 lenses for about the same price.
Just trying to get some suggestions and recommendations.
Cheers.

Does he want/need a viewfinder and the sort of ergonomics you get with a DSLR? The Sony and Olympus both fall short on those counts.

The G5 offer is probably about the best value going at present IMO - it's a lot of camera/lenses for 450 and they're decent lenses at that to get you started. Panasonic seem to do fire-sale prices on cameras that are or are about to be superseded in their line-up.

I don't think that's important to him.

I would say G5. The sensor size on the FZ200 is so much smaller and image quality will be less. Plus the G5 gives him more options if he gets more serious.

I would say the G5 as well, but if he can spare a few more $ look into the G6. Awesome little units that will serve him well and grow with his skills. The FZ200 will always remain a point and shoot, albeit a pretty good one.

If a viewfinder is important then I would say the G5, but if he wants the free lens, he will have to be quick, the offer ends soon.
