Hi, I have a second hand olympus em1 mark 2. In manual mode I want slow shutter speeds but when I move the dial, the speeds stop at 1/20, I can't get any further. Has anybody any ideas why?

I suspect that the other settings are conflicting with the speed you want. If you want the shutter to have priority then the mode dial should be on S not M.

Thank you. Unfortunately in S mode it stops at 1/20 as well, it won't go any further. I want to stay in manual and get past 60 seconds to get to bulb time etc and get to Live Composite, it's the only way to do it. As it is a second hand camera, perhaps I should reset to factory settings, or even contact the seller as the camera does have a guarantee.

I'd reset to factory settings, or check the drive mode that you're in, it could be that you're in the "Hi-Res Multi-shot" mode, which has limitations as to what shutter speeds and apertures are available.

Thank you Tianshi and joshwa, I'm very grateful for your help. I'm quite new to this and learning such a lot. I was indeed on Pro Cap Low and C-AF+TR MF. Hopefully I have learnt to check my settings at the end of every shoot and beginning of the next one.

Actually, if you're in manual mode, none of the other settings will "conflict" - that's the whole point of manual mode

I've just tried your settings on my EM1 mk2 - the problem is definitely the Pro Cap setting which only works at higher shutter speeds. Manual mode on the mode dial does not override the previously set shutter mode in certain settiongs! Switch to a single shot mode and everything works correctly. I've had both the Mk 1 and now the Mk 2 for over 5 years and I'm still learning their many quirks - the more the beast can do the more scope to completely mess things up!
