Hi Jason,

There's been quite few recommendations - just search the forum for 17-40. It sounds like a cracking lense and well worth the money. Someone picked one up at Focus for 530, so 569 sounds pretty good. If it's from warehouseexpress - I can recommend them for speed and efficiency.

Have you considered looking for a second-hand 17-35 2.8 L

There's a few knocking around and I got a near mint one for less than 400 quid.

Hi Jason

Brilliant lens. I traded my 20-35 Canon in for it - very happy that I did. Lens is very sharp, wonderful contrast, handles flare pretty well and very quick and precise autofocus. Downside - it's a bit heavy and bulky and having used an "L" lens you may not be very happy with your remaining lenses any more!

Optically, from all the reviews I have seen, the 17-40 is far better than the old 17-35.

Hi Jason,

I was that one (or one of those ones) who managed to get it for 530 at Focus, and so far I've been highly impressed with it.

It's my first L series lens and you can really see the difference in the quality; the zoom and focus rings are smooth and solid, the images are crisp and clear, and it can focus as close as 0.28 meters.

The 530 price tag was just an exhibition special price, but 569 sounds like a pretty good price anyhow, so I'd say it's still worth the money.

Go for it, you won't regret it!

thanxs alot a dont have any L series lenses but ive made a significant amount of investment in equipment and independant lenses just seem just lacking... 569 quid is from my local dealer i can just walk in off the street and walk out with lens... missed out on focus this year due to familly illnes and gutted but needs must or id have snapped 1 up at that price.

You could try an
American import of the 17 - 40mm L Canon. I've seen them, new, from internet dealers at US$ 740. Of course, we all know the risk -v- reward factor with such purchases.

You could try ebay for the 17-40 under 500 including delivery.
I must say, an excellent choice of lens.

.....Or you could support the EPZ shop and buy one for 533
I've used one for over two years and it's been one of the best photographic purchases I've made. Excellent lens and a relative bargain.
