Hi all. I have a dilemma. I have just bought a canon 30d and need a macro lens to do flower photography. Can anyone recommend/ suggest a good lens for ablout 300.00 please. I prefer canon brand.Smile

At that price you're not far off the classic Canon EF100mm 2.8 macro.

EPZ shop list it at 375...a quick search may reveal it cheaper.

The other canon option is the 60mm EFS macro. It's cheaper than the 100mm, and will double up as a nice short portrait lens. It's about 100 cheaper than the 100mm and falls under your budget. Reviews of the 60mm say it is a very sharp lens, and shots I've seen taken with it (and a couple of tests i took in my local camera shop) support that, though I've not seen any direct comparisons between the 60mm and 100mm

Where the 100mm wins out over the 60mm is working distance, the 100mm allows you to be further away, better for insects as you are less likely to scare them, though for flower macros this shouldn't be a problem. Also the 100mm can be used on a full frame body, whereas the 60mm is for crop sensors only. If you plan to upgrade to a full frame body at some point then I'd go for the 100mm over the 60.
