I'm thinking about buying a 500mm f4L mk1. I was just a bit concerned about the fact theres no canon repair available now. Are there any other uk workshops which could do repairs if needed

Would love mk2 , but finance probably dictates a mk 1.....l

I havenít used the lens, but Iíve been fancying a 500mm L for some time. Personally, I suspect the inclusion of IS is money well spent on the Mk2 - so Iíd wait a save a little more. The lens is a beast - even on a tripod it wonít forgive much movement.

The Mk1 is an excellent lens and includes IS, I only sold mine as it was getting too heavy for me. The only difference is the Mk2 is lighter and just a tad sharper.
As with all long lenses condition is important as they quite easily take knocks and as you say Canon no longer supports servicing, not sure if any independents, such as Lehmanns do.
