Canon EOS 5DS R

rI recentl purchased a Canon EOS 5Ds R wich arrived a day before I went on holiday. Due to the short time, I did not have the time to familiarise myself with the camera. I used it in Programe mode, shot all 500 plus pictures in full frame. I also used two EOS 7D mk1 alongside. I did not have the opportunity to review the pics yntil I got back a few weeke ago.
First day of use was 30/12/18. File ref is 3N7A0002. File size varied from 12MB through to 21MB. This is a 50 MB sensor and being used at full frame. File sizes sould have been higher.
Second day, onwards, file sizes were 56MB through to 78MB. Over 500 pictures were taken with this body, the first 58, taken on the first day were small. At the end of each day, te camera was turned off. Barrery was changed every three days or so for fresh ones.
File ref, eg 3N7A0002,how is this read. The lasr numerals would be shutter releases or frame number. Is there any info from the metadata to indicate crop mode and which crop mode was engaged?
Thanks

The files sizes can be dependent on the format, compression used and the content of the image. What were your file format settings?
If you shoot JPEG, even a 50 megapixel file will compress to ten megabytes or less if you compress it enough. Some scenes, where many pixels are identical, will compress more than scenes where every pixel is different.
Here's a gallery of jpegs from that camera , notice that many files are in the size range you describe. I wonder if you switched from JPEG to raw on day 2 or you increased the JPEG quality setting to the highest or if you had originally set the image size to (S)mall instead of (L)arge.

All pictures taken on this camera are Full frame and at max RAW. Info from the metadata indicates that on day one, 5 pictures were taken and file sizes varied from 12MB through to 21MB. From day to to rhe end of the shoot,. again all pictures were taken at Full frame RAW, all pictures have a file size taht varied from 55MB throug to 78. Only fifference between eacy hay was that the camera was turned on and ogg. Lens was not changed and camera settings was on Programme.
Since getting back from holiday, I discovered this odd behaviour on the first day,s shoot. Not yet been able to explre the ccamera furter.
A little bit puzzled that te metada does not provide more comprehensive data. The software on the computer is Canon DPP on a Windows 10 driven laptop. Softwhare and is all kept up to date,
