Canon Selphy CP 1300 Terrible print quality for photos

Hello ,

I just joined your forum.

Several minutes ago I unboxed a Canon Selphy CP 1300 which I bought from Amazon as a package together with a box of photo paper and inkcartridges by Bubprint.
Tried printing US passport photos. The result was terrible. The image of the person is ok, but in the white background there are several small artefacts which spoils the print entirely. The photo looks perfect in camera (I used a smartphone app dedicated for passport photos).
Printed directly from iPhone. Set up was quick and simple.

I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Thank you very much in advance.

Stupid questions really....did you put the paper in, the right way up?.... did you remove the air-hole tabs from all the ink cartridges?..... Did you give the printer time to warm up, after delivery and unpacking..... was the paper damp ( I don’t mean wet.).... all ofthese factors could affect print quality....

Not stupid at all, that’s why I came here to ask—to be grilled if needed so I can solve my problem!
No, I didn’t remove any air-hole tabs, I had no idea this was a required step. Thank you very much, I will try that just now and revert back to report.

Most ink cartridges I have used have a pull-off tab, covering a pin hole to allow the ink to flow.... don’t pull anything off that you shouldn’t..... the tabs are usually very clearly marked as such.

Hi,
I didn’t find any pull-out tabs on the cartridge. Amazon sold the ink cartridges and photo paper as a package kit with the Selphy printer, but the ink cartridges and paper are not Canon—they’re by Bubprint, never heard of them. I wonder if there’s an issue there.
Attached are three photos of the ink cartridge. I check the other ink cartridges—3 of them in the packages—and they look identical to the one used. 332400_1595844103.jpg

That is a dye sublimation printer, just to make sure, you are letting the printer do its bit and passing the paper through 4 times? It is possible that the paper is upside down, it has been a long time since I used a dye sub and cannot remember if the vaporised ink will take on the reverse of the substrate. I would say it is also possible for the quality of the third party dye sub cartridges and paper to not be up to the quality of genuine Canon materials.

Aha! They aren’t inkjet-printer inks.... instead, they look very similar, but much smaller than the cartridges I used to put into my old laser printer.... I had never heard of a ... Dye-Sublimation ...printer.

I would imagine there must be something on the Internet/YouTube featuring your exact model...
I do know that ,both, laser printers and photo-copiers don’t like paper that is even a tiny bit damp...

Your paper, may have absorbed moisture during time in the post... it should stabilise indoors though....

Usually these things have a simple explanation....

Please let us know if it all begins to work as it should.

I have an older model Selphy and i love it. So handy for those 6x4s just to go in a small album. Ive never had any trouble with it. I get the paper and ink packs especially for the printer.
