Hi, I have been using the Canon sx50 HS camera for a long time now. First the 40 and now the 50. I use it to record concert music vdos. Lately, I have been facing a (frustrating) problem with the recording part. One among the various files recorded during a concert, is blank !
Sometimes it is the most important part of the concert. Had to face a lot of embarrassment because of this.
Any solution for this guys?? Any specific memory card I need to use for vdos?

How my file directory looks, can be seen at this link:

I don't know if this will help but try a Google search.

Does the file show up on the camera at all?

You might be best contacting Canon support if the camera is within warranty.

Sorry for that jumble of ideas.

Regards, Alex.

Thanks for your reply. AlexE.. The file is not view-able anywhere . just a 0 byte file as seen above. Its way past warranty date.

Has happened to me several times. Sad

I think at some point the camera buffer hasn't been written to the card, file creation has failed, stop was pressed immediately after start or something else.

Only way to troubleshoot is to try different cards. Never take them out whilst camera is still switched on, still possibly writing. Try free Recuva software if you are desperate to salvage something.

Agree with Chris.

I would try going out and shooting a lot of videos to see was there any pattern in the blank files.

Also, has this happened before or is it just a one off?

Thanks Chris and Alex.

Recuva didnt help.

This blank '0' recording happened several times earlier. Lost very important parts of the program.

I'll have to try an SD card with a different specification perhaps.

Card contacts get dirty, clean them with one of these

Don't let the battery get so low that it can die mid-recording

According to what I can find your camera uses a very low bit rate - 4.7 Mbps - when recording video.

Only when recording 100 Mbps video do I find I must use the high end SD cards

You could easily use a low price card like this without issues.

Clean stuff, try a blower/vacuum on SD card slot, do a factory reset of your camera, put a new card in, format the card.

Get in the habit of formatting it after copying files to PC.

@Chris_L is inclined to get thing right (unlike me).

But if that doesn't work please let us know.

Thanks Alex
