That's because they are not really CF cards and unless someone has released a DSLR to take them, they are really for the likes of very high end broadcast video.

Thank you
It's a shame they don't advertise it that way and stop people wasting money thinking there getting a supper fast CF Card

Thanks again Steve

I see that the new Canon 1 DX II has replaced the SD slot with one of these, retaining a conventional CF card.

So Nikon go XQD and Canon go CFast. Don't think we've had that division before in camera storage.

I use PhaseOne, they're big supporters, however, you need to update firmware of earlier digital backs if available to accept them. The new XF System 100mp IQ3 need this type of speed/storage.

You'd need to update more than firmware, as they have no pins to connect to a conventional CF reader.

1DX has two CF card slots, and whilst the introduction of CFast is excellent news for buffer performance, it's is a bit puzzling why they didn't go with 2 CFast slots or perhaps introduce a cassette type chamber which could take either XQD or CFast

The split is also a bit disconcerting for dual system users, and future system swappers

XQD and CFast has the potential to become a Betamax/VHS type scenario. Canon and Nikon and even card manufacturers have allied themselves in one camp or the other.

Odd when you consider that both cards came out of the same development.

Totally agree tomcat606, having a list would be great and advertising that these are NOT CF cards or compatible with them should be a sellers responsibility and as you said, would save us wasting money. I have a Canon 5D MKIII and asked the question about compatibility. Someone said yes so I bought one. :-( GRRR A couple of hundred $ wasted!

Does anyone know if there are faster Compact Flash cards available for DSLR's than the 1066X? If so what, where etc please? Thank you

Lexar Professional 2000x UHS-II U3. Buy them from any good supplier including A-mazon.

It looks like 1066x / 160MB/s are the fastest CF cards available, hence why Nikon have gone XQD and Canon to CFast for the cameras that need higher data transfer speeds.

The Lexar Professional 2000x UHS-II U3 mentioned by Keithh is a SD card, and currently the fastest atm at 300MB/s, but that is surpassed by 440MB/s for XQD and 550MB/s for CFast atm.

The Lexar Professional 2000x UHS-II U3 can give a 6-7 second burst at 10 fps on a D500, which is enough for most people. I think it is 50/50 whether XQD and CFast will become mainstream with so few cameras actually using those formats. The D500 has helped XQD sales as it sells in higher numbers than the D4/D4S/D5, but still very low in comparison to all the SD using cameras.

I think it is very telling that Sony don't use the XQD card

CF cards! Sorry didn't read that bit......don't use them anymore really.

Sony make XQD cards, make of that what you will...........and use them in their PXW range of professional video cameras.

I got called away mid editing my post earlier. :-/

What I meant to say at the end was I think it is very telling that Sony don't use the XQD card in any of their cameras even though they invented the format. I think they have used them in some of their video cameras. Makes you doubt the format long term unless file sizes get so large or fps rates on some cameras go through the roof so SD cards are no longer viable, and even then there is the CFast option for manufacturers to choose between too.

I have one 32Gb XQD card and the fastest 32Gb SD card, plus some mid / high speed SD cards and I'm sorted. The CF cards are of no use on the new camera, but they still work on the old cameras. Technology eh! rarely stands still. Smile
