It's EOS Utility you need.

Connect the 400D, open the EOS utility software, click on the option to connect to camera. In the window that opens, look on the bottom right for the spanner/hammer icon and click on it. Owner's name is the top item.

Try this, if you have the appropriate software installed on your computer. (EOS Utility)

Connect your camera to the computer and switch it "ON".

When the download window appears select "Camera Settings / Remote Shooting.

A small screen will appear with a copy of the display on the rear of the camera, at the lower right side of this screen is a symbol of a hammer and a spanner, click this, a drop down box will appear and you can click the name, delete the name, and enter your name or anything else here
click "OK" and you should be set.

This is how it works for me with my 400d.

Hope this helps, regards Nigel.

Seems I've got to type faster, beaten to it by mrcal.
