I just bought a laptop off a friend. What is the best way to make sure that it has no virus, etc. on it?
BTW I bought second hand because I wanted good spec cheap. Wink

Thanks, Alex

The best way is a clean reinstall of Windows from scratch, formatting the drive as you do so.

Failing that and assuming it runs Windows 10, ensure the OS is fully updated, enable Windows Defender, uninstall any third party anti-virus software, and run a full scan with Defender. This will probably take a few hours.

If you're leaving someone elses version of Windows on there you might also want to use something like:

CCleaner
Spybot S&D
Malwarebytes

Plus disk cleanup (built in to Windows) to remote any unnecessary temp files etc

I would consider nothing less.

It's quick and easy and it'll give the machine a new lease of life.
