Cleaning a D300

Hi guys I have just been lucky enough to acquire a 70-200 2.8 VR II but whilst testing it I found a dark spot just left of centre and a "hair like" mark just above it. At first I thought it was my new lens but then tried other lenses and the marks are still there.

I am assuming therefore that the marks are something on the sensor.

Is it safe to clean the sensor using the appropriate microfibre swabs and cleaning solution?

Any advice very welcome.

Regards

Yes it should be okay. Just make sure you have a good fully charged battery in the camera before you start. I would just give it a good blast with an air blower first though as I find that usually get rids of any dust bunnies. You only need to resort to using cleaning swabs and fluid if there are still marks after giving it it a good blow out.

When you give it a blow, point the camera downwards and blow up into it.

Are the marks coming out in the pictures if yes clean the sensor if not the marks are probably on the mirror itself, don't clean this.
Cleaning the sensor is super easy and only made scary by people claiming it to be hard and scary.
There are loads of tutorials on YouTube on how to do it
