can someone please help, im buying the d80 body tomorrow, but ive just been reading a piece on the web, that when you shoot in nef, (raw) the nef file is compressed.where the d200 is a full raw, would this be a major loss in image quality, as i always shoot in raw.
PLEASE HELP BEFORE I BUY IT.

Don't worry, the compression algorithm is near zero loss (not sure if it is actually 0), nothing like jpeg.

I have a D200 and I was so happy with the compressed raw files on my D70 I have chosen the compressed option again.

Givewn that the RAW file is over 12M it cannot be that big a compression :-0

but is it worth upgrading your D50 yet? Would you get more from new lenses?

I think it is getting on for 50% compression. Knowing how much compression you get from any data files I would think that would be perfectly achievable.

I've shot both bodies in RAW extensively and have never been able to see any quality loss. Don't worry about it.

You'll be glad of the compression, Unless you have a fist full of 4 Gb Extreme cards....Sad
