The MOT on my car expires at the back of June. I am aware from news reports that certificates will be extended by 6 months, due to the current situation. I have just tried checking online re my vehicle. Loaded up the reg.no. but no satisfactory result from Swansea.
Any knowledgeable persons here in EPZ, testers, garage owners, mechanics who can give me a reliable and simple explanation ?

UPDATE RE THIS MATTER. Managed to contact my garage re this matter. Their reply, 'Yes, you can have it deferred for 6 months, BUT, when that 6 months runs out, and your vehicle is re-tested, then the new MOT certificate ONLY lasts for 6 MONTHS. The government has not disclosed that fact."
I was then informed that the garage is running normally and was able to book an MOT test before the expiry date of the current MOT.
Hope this is of benefit to other members.

I think I read that the online check isn't updated until 7 days before the MOT is due - so if it will still show as the original date if it's after the 12th June. Wasn't aware of the new MOT only lasting 6 months (but I'm not surprised by the lack of info from the government, as this seems to be the new 'normal') Although, as you say, now garages are starting to get back to normal, you may not have to wait..

Got my work vehicles MOT tested during lockdown with no problems. I think most garages are open now

Most garages local to me are running again.
Although not an MOT, mine was due a warranty service which was done to schedule on 1st June.

It's worth looking at Halfords Autocentres, particially the ones not linked to a retail store. I had my BMW serviced and MOT'd last month fairly easily.

Just checked with a friend who's a qualified MOT tester (actually garage owner), the following MOT will be valid for 12 months as normal.

The 6 months story is just a sales ruse to panic people to still go get MOT's done now.

I had a MOT booked for March/April and our dog went sick and I had to cancel; a day later the MOT system stopped as did most garages; our garage would have done the MOT but it was the DVLA side that had closed and nothing could be recorded. I logged on to DVLA's site and punched in my number plate details and it shows my MOT valid till Oct 20. It also states that, notwithstanding the MOT, you have to keep the car serviceable. I intend to try and get it done soon and note Chrism8's comments above - so perhaps the system is up and running again - with a big backlog to sort!! Chris
