Hi there, I have a Nikon d5200 and a few lenses (Nikon AF-S 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR, Nikon AF-S 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR DX, Nikon AF-S 85mm f/3.5 G ED VR DX Micro), I take quite a few photographs of my wife and daughters and I was wondering if or how much my photographs would improve if I purchased a dedicated flash compared to using the on camera flash? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
many thanks

It will improve no end. Use it to the side - but beware of shadows, use a reflector or get two flashes,

No need to buy Nikon, I have three Yongnuo radio flashes with remote on the camera hotshoe. All manual though but total cost less than 200 (plus stands)

Good luck.
