Just thought I'd briefly mention 'dispcalGUI', as I've recently discovered it. A download from here and here provides opportunity for probably most of us to upgrade monitor calibration capability.

I'd advise not bothering if you're happy the way things are, but for instance this program should allow Spyder Express and X-Rite 'Smile' users to measure luminance -- which can't be done with bundled software -- and select absolutely any white point including native (can't be done with Spyder Pro?), and create extremely accurate calibration profiles from large test charts.

I wouldn't have gone looking for this if my X-Rite software hadn't self-destructed, but having now calibrated two Dells with dispcalGUI, they look pretty good!
