DMC-LC1 with exotic S/N - CCD sensor status

Greetings everyone,

I'm a new member on this forum, been reading various posts and discussions here for quite some time now. It just so happens that my first post revolves around rather ancient (so to speak) Panasonic camera model - the Lumix DMC-LC1. I do realize that my chances are slim, to receive any kind of response in reference to this outdated model, but still ...

I just came across a DMC-LC1 specimen (mint condition, SHTCNT less than 500), which has a rather peculiar serial number: E6SY00008 R

From what I've learned so far, pretty much all DMC-LC1 cameras sold in Europe and US, had a specific S/N alphanumeric pattern (A4SYxxxxx, B4Yxxxxx ... J4SYxxxxx), and so did the cameras designated for Japanese market (CY4xxxxxx). The camera I'm pondering to purchase has a serial that doesn't match any of those S/N patterns, neither European/US nor Japanese. With the former at least we were able to confirm, whether a camera was one of those with affected CCD (known issue with early series cameras, from A4SYxxxxx to G4SYxxxxx), but the serial I listed above doesn't provide any clue whatsoever.

Any hint regarding this riddle would be most welcome.

Kind regards,
Bostjan

I believe this 5-megapixel camera was launched in 2004. Would you be buying it just to display?

I have to admit I've contemplated getting a Minolta S404 (2003) which was my first ever digital camera purely for nostalgia but I know the actual results would be inferior to my smartphone!

Thank you 'Carabosse',

I actually plan to use it ... will be my first digital after a long (forced) pause, when Kodak had quit producing my favorite Extracolor slide film. There's more than enough testimonials on the Internet, proving 5MP was not a big handicap for performance of this camera. Don't forget that late Galen Rowell was making exhibition size prints out of his Nikon D1 (2.7MP).

Kind regards,
Bostjan

I have just tried my account at Panasonic, and this model is no longer listed for help.
Panasonic, however, do appear to have quite a few parts still available.
No where on the site can I find any info on Serial numbers, but the sensor faults appear to
be in the Es4y range.
I do not know how to ascertain that your serial number is genuine, but, from personal experience, I am aware there are some very authentic looking fakes out there. Maybe an e-mail to Panasonic may help?

Your best bet is to put something on DP Review's Panasonic Compact Camera Talk Forum. I have seen discussion of the LC1 on there.
