Does anyone know where this is.

As an ongoing project I am trying to identify the location of a set of photos taken in France in about 1910. I now know where 95% of them are and they are all South of Grenoble.
This is the last one that I have any chance of identifying. I have spent hours and hours on this one, looking at maps and Google Earth. And have contacted various French authorities with no reply at all.
It shows a railway line roughly parallel to a road leading down to what appears to be a village with a mound possibly with a structure on top. The road obviously sweeps round to the left. The structure of the mountain behind is distinctive.
This is in the South East of France, in the Alps region. There are two ralway lines in the area which run North South and East West approximately and cross just West of Veynes. I appreciate that this line might be closed (unlikely) and the road now very different but if somebody actually knows the village/town real information rather than speculation would very much appreciated.
