Easy photo book production without expensive book creator software

For the past four years I have used…BookpriningUK …to produce my soft back and hardback Photo-Books. They do not do the design it is up to you to create then edit covers and pages in your chosen software…yiu send that as a PDF from which they print then send a free proof…. If this is passed by you then your order is delivered very quickly ….hardbacks take just a little longer.
For my other books I tried ..Bookcreator… it was ok, but limited… I used iPad Pro Pages..but that was complicated…. For my current hardback, I used the FREE ….OPEN OFFICE …(almost the same as WORD ) page formatting and sizing is a doddle… I used an old copy of photoshop CS6 to resize my 100 photos. Copy and pasted them into my on-screen book…added text…saved it…
Then exported it as a PDF document. Which transferred easily via a standard email to BookprintingUK…
It is worth a try ….I can recommend. OPEN OFFICE

I do not think Open Office will be of use to me. I use MS 365 and use, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Access. In particular the database I use regularly related to my photography is a relational database using various macros, queries and Reports so even if Open Office could do the same, I do not wish to start again. I also use several complex Excel Work books which require various macros so not sure I would want to re-invent all of this. Today I was asked to produce a certificate and was able to find a Publisher certificate that I had produced some years ago which only needed minor editing. I am fortunate that I do not have to pay for 365 as my son has bought a multiple licence and includes myself and my wife. I have heard good reports about Open Office though comparisons tend to favour Libre Office. If I was starting again I might consider one of those.

I was simply explaining that, you don’t require super expensive software, or, be tied to a particular book printer to produce a good photo book, or, any other book..
I have used OPEN OFFICE, ever since I acquired my Windows 10 laptop 4 yrs ago….it is almost identical to the MS version so learning it is dead easy.
Likewise with Photo processing , and PDF conversion there are free pr very cheap programs available.
BookprintingUK Print exactly what you send them using your specification for covers, papers and binding…..because you act as both creator and editor…turn-around is incredibly quick, after you have approved the free printed proof copy they send.
I don’t work for or represent BookprintingUK….

Quote:I've used Open Office for years, recommended by someone on here.
I may well give Bookprinting a try, as it's good to hear when someone has found a good supplier, so thanks for the heads up on that one Hobbo.
Give them a ring, and ask for Sam ( antha )…….mention Cyril….
Or look them up online first….
