EOS 7D International Warranty?

I'm guessing the topic of buying a 7D while overseas in America has already been brought up? I'm going for a trip next year, and was thinking of getting one from a reputable store over there. I always thought Canon warranties were international - after all, if I go travelling, I want to know that the camera will be looked after wherever I am. I am going sailing around the world in about 18 months, so it is of some concern to me if they do not.

Any experiences/thoughts on a way to make sure Canon will cover me no matter where I am on the planet (clearly I will have insurance, but that doesn't cover manufacturers faults). Sending a camera off to the original country when I am stopped at some foriegn port sounds like a recipe for disaster to me...

I'd welcome any thoughts?

Thanks,

James

Get a UK one, the price differential no longer exists. Price from B & H is 1216 assuming you reclaim US sales tax on leaving the US and pay VAT on coming back to the UK.

I just paid 1,299 for a 7D + Grip + second battery, all UK stock.

Sure, but I am still intending to go overseas (float around on a boat for a while) and I wanted to know if the UK (or US) warranty would hold up... any thoughts?

AFAIK US warranty is not usable in the UK, so you would either need to send it back to the US or fork out to have it fixed here.

You can purchase an international warranty, but it does come at an extra cost.
