Trev, how often do you use your f1.4 lens wide open?

In the good 'ol days of manual focus, a wide aperture lens made it easier to get the picture sharp but we have AF these days.

Quite often…. very useful when photographing new babes indoors without the use of flash, obviously a shallow DOF but that can be useful to loose some of the background. SmileSmile

In that case, you bought wisely, Trev. Would you consider going even wider by getting the f1.2, available only in manual-focus?

I must admit I had not considered it but might if the f1.4 left me wanting… but it has not as yet.

For weddings I use an old Nikkor 55mm 1.2 that I adapted for the D era with the help of a dremel. there was no AI in 1974.
Just love the slightly soft focus fully open.
top quality, they go for about £ 200 these days.

The 50mm 1.4G is a really nice lens, I am finding. But I also suspect that the 1.8 will give v similar performance.
