I don't know whether this is right forum for this. But, I was wondering does anyone else have issues accessing ePhotozine using Firefox. On my PC (Windows 8) it seems to have a habit of freezing, which doesn't happen on Chrome, and I tend to have more tabs open on Chrome than Firefox.

The problem could be with Windows 8 which is fairly ancient now - Windows 11 is current.

That said Chrome has about 70% of the browser market and Firefox only 7%. It may no longer be worth optimising sites for Firefox. Just a thought. Smile

I've been using F'fox as my default browser for some years, and not had any problems with ePz...as CB says, it could be the old Windows you are running.

I run windows 10 and Firefox. My computer regularly freezes for a few minutes. But it does this on various sites, not just epz.

I'm a long term Firefox and ephotozine user with no problems.
I'm on Windows 10

Ditto - same as Sitan1 - never used anything but Firefox - Windows 10 and all programs run fine. I suspect it is Windows 8. Is it possible to upgrade your system's Windows?

Thanks for the comments. Yes, it does seem likely that the OS is the problem. And my computer is geriatric - it is over seven years old, which I find quite amazing - and too old for an operating system upgrade. I have been thinking about an upgrade for about eighteen months now, even identified which machine I want, but somehow never got round to doing anything about it. The present beast does everything I want it to, and I can live without using Firefox for ePhotozine. Strangely enough, twenty plus years in the IT industry has left me somewhat less than starry eyed about getting the latest. Maybe, by the end of the year (I said that in 2020!).

My machine is at least as old as yours if not a bit older, but when I bought it I realised that it would be with me as long as I could keep it going and so with that in my mind I did go for fairly high specs (at the time) but it has been well worth it. I run the Adobe software with no problems at all and everything else I need is running perfectly well. I doubt if it could run Windows 11 but then that does not bother me as this version of Windows(10) is, to me, already a bit of a pain as it seems to think that the computer belongs to Windows and not me! This is the second machine that I have had from Medion - a German firm - recommended to me by a friend, the first one which is now around 20 years old is still working well - doesn't have the memory that this one does nor the later evolution of processor, but still copes with Windows 10. But a new computer is always a joy and so I wish you joy!

I no longer use firefox but have you tried re-setting it or emptying its cache etc.

There's a cautionary tale here. I bought my PC in November 2014, and Windows 10 came out in July 2015, and yet is incompatible with Windows 10. So, either ASUS were unaware of the impending release (unlikely!), or I, inadvertently, purchased a machine that was end-of-life. To be fair to myself, one of the reasons for my sloth in upgrading, is that I have been waiting for the dust to settle around Windows 11, and the teething problems to be sorted out.

The spec of the machine is fine and runs everything, including Adobe, fine. The real irony here is, that I am stuck on Adobe CC2018, as later versions require Windows 10, or Windows 7. So, if I had an even older machine, I could upgrade Photoshop!

That is indeed ironic. I have steered clear for all sorts of reasons of the 'packaged' deal. When you do think about upgrading look at Medion (online only - you wont find them in shops, unless perhaps in Germany). Both machines have been excellent.

Tianshi_angie thanks for that, I'll bear it in mind when I do finally get my act together. Always good to go on recommedation.

BTW, I've just had a look at your portfolio. You've got some very impressive stuff there. I particularly liked your last post of Freesias.

Thank you so much for that. I'm afraid I do very little photography these days as 'old-age-decaying' is causing me many problems. But I love to see other's work and I appreciate the conversations on ePz which keeps me thinking and improving in my mind's eye!

Since Windows 8 running online really is a security problem - if you are not successful in upgrading to Windows 10 (after upating HW-supporting apps) - what about Linux? Ubuntu is a nice version... ok, your PS will not work. But there are so many other possibilities...

In case you are thinking this is a huge undertaking - have you tested the compatibility requirements of Win11? Very probable you are lacking something... So new hardware or new OS!

Hope this is helpful - kind regards!
