Sounds a bit flowery - sure it wasn't the Lone Hydrangea?

I don't remember that, but I do remember my former bank manager wearing a mask and cowboy hat . . . . .

. . . . . I guess that's why they called him the loan a-ranger

How is this for a clanger.
Decca record company issued an LP record of (wait for it) a record of Dvorak`s "Symphony #9 from the new world". but the cover and the disk both stated "Symphony #5 from the new world". Bet somebody got the chop for that.

I know of a better one Ron... a few years ago a German publishing company decided to produce a dictionary of music along the lines of the New Grove (20+ volumes, several thousand pounds)... so central is Bach to German music that the section on him was prepared separately by top academics... the book is published, it's sent out to customers, at which point they find out that they'd forgotten to include the section on Bach! Many, many people got the chop I imagine Smile

Almost as bad as when Chevrolet decided to sell the Chevrolet Nova in Mexico.

Pity nobody told them that, in Spanish, "Nova" means "Doesn't Go"

Tony (Phoenix) - and just to show that multi-national corporations (in this case General Motors) don't listen, years later we had the Vauhall Nova which was built in Spain. Just as well they badged it the Opel Corsa for mainland Europe. I owned a Nova once - turned out to be an apt translation :-(

I have owned a Nova for many years (and which I inherited from my daughter). Great little car - thoroughly reliable.

.. and the marketing boys who in the 60s tried to flog the Rolls-Royce (I think it was them) Silver Mist in Germany ..

No-one had thought to find out what 'mist' might mean in German ..

Indeed Suzi - natural fertiliser comes to mind.

Similarly, the Ford Capri was going to be called the 'Caprino' until someone pointed out that (in Italian I think) it was natural fertiliser of the goat variety!!
