Flash Sync Speed

The flash sync speed on my Nikon D60 is 1/200sec. If I bought a flashgun, would this stay the same, or does it only apply to the popup flash?

Thanks.

You might have a high speed sync facility.
Certainly do on Canons.
High speed sync works by a series of multiple flashes as the shutter curtains moves across the sensor ensuring full frame exposure.
You switch it on via the flashgun settings.

You may find that you need to use a slightly slower speed when you use a hot-shoe fitting flash trigger for studio flash.

if you use the sb800/900 it will sink to camera speed.
