Free Broadband

An election promise by the labour party is that every home will have free wi fi. They intend to privatise the BT wifi part. BT is the largest suppler of wi fi in the UK and there's several others and nothing has been mentioned about them. I'm with virgin media and they are the second largest supplier so I can't see how it's going to work. There again, it's easy to promise something and then change your mind if you win the election.

I work in telecoms and can see potentially hundreds of larger and smaller businesses (employers of thousands and thousands of taxpaying employees) going out of business. Without the economies of scales the likes of talk talk, vodafone, sky, etc will all massively have to scale back there wider product offerings. suddenly lots of related products will be unviable and all the smaller companies working out from this will disappear.
its potentially a UK telecoms industry killer, with other countries all picking up the cloud internet services you can no longer get from UK providers. Does the current Labour leadership not see the bigger picture and how our place in a global economy works ?
Maybe with Russia, China and Iran all controlling internet access then Jeremy Corbyn also wants state control or peoples internet usage - very scary.

Quote:So we all get free broadband who's going to pay for future investment and upgrades, us through higher taxes more than likely.
There is an explanation of it all on their website British Broadband

So Labour will make IT giants such as Amazon and Google to pay for this. How many years of court cases and appeals will that take before the legalities are in place. Before that happens, they cannot begin rolling out fiber connectivity.

But then will Amazon and Google and all the big businesses move out of the UK, then where will the money come from?
Just my thought
