Personally the google mini is great, you can ask it many questions, but where its really brilliant is when kids are doing homework and need to check facts.
And if you are quite narcissistic ask it if you are handsome/pretty etc - its quite fun for a few mins.
Often just streaming some random spotify radio channel is nice.

Of course it also may hear all your bad words and listen in to your secrets Wink #conspiracy

If it was free then i'd get another for other rooms - but as i'm on the free Google One plan its not offering me a free Mini.

In real life, it's not really free at all.

All I can really add is me and my family love our Google Home speakers, not worried about anyone listening to our conversations as they would grow bored pretty quickly.

As mentioned above there're great for helping with things like the kids homework. Can honestly say there're used daily even if it's only for playing music, switching lights on or making l shopping lists.

...Except for those who might hear conversations when you’re giving card details over the phone nearby, to some establishment you’re buying something from..

Sorry, won’t have any such device in the house..Sad

and outside in the car - the car itsself/ its radio, satnav, and blue tooth connected phone.

I'm look forward to the day when i can whisper "Camera, f8, hyperfocal 5.8M and -1/3 ev"

The worrying thing for about this, as has been shown by recent news stories, is that you don't actually know who is listening to you.
You don't know where the data is being stored, or who it is being sold to.

Your conversations might be boring until one day you say to the wife "I think I need to see a doctor about this" and next week your insurance premiums go up.

I'm perfectly capable of switching on a light or writing a shopping list without the use of some software running in a data center somewhere in California. If I want to ask Google a question, I can press a button on my phone and ask - it doesn't need to be listening all the time.

Oh it’s not listening all the time...might be the defence....then how does it recognise you saying “Alexa” if it’s not...?Tongue

...back to my cave....Smile

As these devices speak back to you there is the other threat too - that the answers are not the official google/amazon answers etc.
e.g. that some one have hacked into part of the network and is now feeding you errant information - or telling you to do or believe the wrong thing, or maybe even the device asking you your bank details etc.

In our golden SciFi future where we all have RoboMaids following us around to assist us with mundane tasks then we also will be in dialog with them - "please pass the salt" etc. They too will be always listening.
