Follow Up Question:

Having found the Windows Movie Maker programme we're stuck on next stage

Wifes got the DV camcorder from her work (Panasonic VDR D100, uses mini DVDs) problem is once we put a disc with some content into the laptop it will play quite happy but we cannot import it to WMM, various errors but closest we get is an error message relating to absent codec

No software supplied with the camera so I'm guessing since we don't have the listed optional accesory of 'DVD Movie Album SE4' means we dont have the codec? would this be right

Check if the DVD has been finalized in the camera before you try importing, if this does not work then you'll need to use a third party capture tool like WinDV also check the panasonic site link below and see if installing the drivers help

Yeah, after several attempts managed to finalize the DVD in the camera before shooting which has got us to the codec issue (before that we were floundering Sad
Had a look at Panasonic earlier but only software support is updates for the optional software that we dont have

Hmmm in that case i guess your only other option would be to use a third party tool like WinDVD or something similar

Just to update
Windows Movie Maker cannot (apparently) take data from a DVD as an import
I've been advised by Panasonic to try Ulead Movie Factory so thats the next step

Cheers for the help
