Fuji raw file compatibility

I've been invited to take part in a Fujifilm trial, with it being likely that the camera I will be offered to test is the new X-Pro3.

I do not have the PP software to support this camera's raw files, either because it is too old (PS Elements 13, LR6) or because it is incompatible with the Fuji system (DxO PhotoLab 2). In any event, I have no intention of updating any of it - it works for me fine as is.

I am assuming, however, that if I do get my hands on the X-Pro 3 I can simply download the raw files to my hard drive as normal then convert them to .dng files which will enable me to process the files as normal. Would that be correct?

Grateful for any early responses to this - I need to get back to the promoters asap. Thanks.

The good news here is that Fuji ownership (use in your case) allows you to download a restricted version of Capture One raw converter specifically for Fuji .raf files. https://www.captureone.com/en/products/fujifilm You can then edit them in your usual software.

It comes with Fujis own proprietary raw converter which requires the camera to be attached to the PC. Essentially all the RAW adjustments are done by you in the actual camera. No third party software company can successfully decode Xtrans raw files, which is why Fuji are only now allowing access to it inside the camera.

The free capture one software is really good but does not do panorama or stacked images. I stuck with adobe for those reasons and as my son has a canon still so need to edit cr2 files.

How do you define " successfully " ?

Phase One has a version of Capture One specifically for Fujifilm, " Pro " and the free " Express" so I would be amazed if it unsuccessfully decoded Xtrans raw files !

Yes, you can convert to dng, either with the free adobe converter or, even better, with X-transformer. I can't remember how much I paid for X-transformer but it's fairly chaep.

Don't know how you picked up on this thread - it's ancient! - but thank you for your input.
