getty images to tap into flickr images

I see that Getty images have finally found out that 0ver 100,000 images from 40 million users cant be ignored. They are joining forces with Flickr to use other peoples images and paying them a small amount of money.

Typical big company like Getty get to use images and the little guy will think he or she is getting money for a snap. Where does that leave the pro and semi pro togs out there i wonder?

Yes but what about freelance why would they pay for your images when at say a festival 100's of people could snap the same shot and be happy with half the price

You're talking about 'on spec' submission and a generic situation.

The Freelance shooting to a Brief - and meeting that Brief - will always win.

I dont think its going to do freelancers, those that rely on photography as a job, any favours. A design agency that I work alongside rarely issues a brief to a professional these days - only rare major advertising compaigns, they either take the pictures themselves or source them from stock libraries.
