Have I bought the wrong lens?

Hi guys

I recently bought an Olympus OM-D EM-5 camera body. I also purchased, separately, an Olympus 14-42 1:3.5-5.6 ED lens thinking they were compatible.!!!

The lens has just arrived but I can't attach it to the camera (seems too big). Thinking I have bought the wrong lens...should it have been an EZ?

I have searched the Olympus compatability tables but can't make head nor tail...

Can anyone help, please?

thanks
Jeff

Does it say "M. Zuiko Digital" or just "Zuiko Digital" ?

(The ED/EZ designation is not relevant here).

I think you will find that that lens is a 4/3 mount and NOT for a camera with a Micro 4/3 mount (which is smaller).

It just says `Olympus Digital' (it's an old lens) - feels too big for the connection

OK, as Fred has indicated, you have got a lens with the wrong mount. You can either return it (if you can) or buy a mount adaptor to use it on the E-M5.

There are two 14-42 Olympus lenses.....A) "Zuiko"...& B) "M.Zuiko".......as I understand it the "M" designation is for the EM5 !!

Have a look on the EPZ reviews under 'Interchangeable Lenses' > 'Olympus' > scroll down to the 14-42 lenses & check them out........both
lenses are reviewed & show the relative designations & what fits what..........

If your lens hasn't got the "M" prefix then it looks to be the wrong one ???????Smile

Thanks...I will probably try and re-sell it (wasn't very expensive)...have read somewhere that the adapters affect some of the functions...would prefer a clean start Smile

There are two lens mounts, the older 4/3 mount and the later M4/3 mount.

The lens you have there looks like its made for 4/3.

An easy way of checking the difference between the old 4/3rds and micro is micro 4/3rds have eleven contacts on the rear of the lens and I believe the old 4/3rds have ten.
