Hello everybody Smile

I need a Nikon/Nikon-fit zoom lens with a wide (doesn't have to be too wide) to telephoto range, ideally with an aperture of f2.8 and with VR. What is the cheapest option that ticks all these boxes?

I currently have a D60 with 10-20mm, 50mm and 18-55mm lenses.

Thanks in advance.

Description is a bit vague, Jon.
How wide and how long do you want?
Is it to replace one of your lens like the 18-55 or to add to your collection?
What is your budget?

you're not going to find one that goes from wide to telephoto and has 2.8 aperture.
If the range is important, look at the 18-105 or 18-200 lenses.
If speed is important, then you'll be looking at the 17-55 (no vr on that one, but it's unnecessary in this focal range) and 70-200 offerings. Either of these two will affect your budget considerably.

Basically I want something at least as wide as 35mm that zooms to around 100mm... hope that helps.

the closest match I can think of in a 2.8 is the 24-70, which is sharper than any of the other zoom mentioned. The background separation is excellent, and maintains enough detail to resize at a similar level to the slower 100mm zooms. Caveats: cost and no vr. Again though, not usually needed.
