Why don't photo competitions have proper judges any more? I hate these public vote things they encourage begging Sad
27 Jun 2012 7:35PM
well you just have to get the votes to be in the top 10, then it's a judges decision.

crap system i know...

This is asked so many times and it is far better to ask everyone to take a look at all the entries and then vote on yours should we feel they are better than the others. I would only vote on an image if I felt it worthy and not because someone had said vote for me! I want this holiday. It would make it incredibly unfair on the other entrants because you have access to such a large audience.
27 Jun 2012 10:57PM
umm, ok. to be honest everyone has access to the same potential audience...it's called the internet. i don't really see the issue. a lot of successful pro photographers are nothing special, they are just good at promoting themselves.

i mentioned people can enter themselves, and even posted a general link so you can check out everything in the competition.

thanks for looking anyway.

True. But a successful professional is commonly successful because they know how to get the best out of te conditions. An amateur (or one of the myriad average photographers who think having a camera and a website makes them a 'professional') are more opportunistic.

In all fairness they are rather good photos and deserving of an award IMO...

No chance. If you can't win fairly, then you really didn't ought to be entering.

To be fair, everyone will be doing the same via TwitFace etc but promotion is a two way horse. Give and ye shall receive.
