How can I stop the constant ads popping up in web browsers

I’m struggling trying to stop ‘pop up adverts’ that I appear to be plagued with and knowing that there are many savvy PC users on this site I wonder if anyone can give me a solid solution?
I did try adblocker and that worked a treat (as far as I could tell!) because although it said it was free, after a short time I get a banner across the bottom of my screen that the free trial version had now lapsed and I need to pay!
I’m really annoyed because I didn’t think that ‘we’ should be bombarded with ads and the web providers should block them, not expect us to pay to stop them.
Anyway, rant over, but has anyone found a way to avoid them?

I normally use Edge as my Browser and have added two extensions Rapport (for security) and AdBlock. Yes it works fine in blocking adverts but using a Blocker is not always ideal. I would like to create a permanent list of sites for which I will allow ads. Some sites get stroppy and block me from further progress if I try to continue with an Ad Blocker. I can temporarily allow Ads on a current site which how I use it on this site but see few ads anyway as a plus member.

The site has nothing against adblockers being discussed, just as long as you don't start discussing using one on ePz.
We are totally dependent on sponsors and advertisers, and they do read these forums and will see if members are discussing blocking their ads. If they see it happening, they are less likely to sponsor or advertise on the site.

I’d like to reiterate what Malc said. As a site, the majority of revenue comes from advertising. Without this, or with members blocking them, we will no longer exist. Simple.
Unlike many other sites, we really do try and limit them and keep them to relevant ads. Certainly if you’re signed in and more so if you’re a Plus member (to thank you for your contribution).
For instance the Nikon adverts currently running; they are a major client and of relevance to the site. Rather than blocking them, if you find them of interest it would actually really help if you clicked on adverts that appeal.
The campaign’s successes are dependent on how many views and clicks adverts receive.
Like I say, without them the site dies so I implore you not to block them. Indeed, to click on those that grab your attention. As the famous supermarket says, every little helps.
Thanks,
Tracey

Agreed, I have no problems with ads on this site, there are some sites that are rendered unusable with non related pop ups and videos springing up all over the place. Correct me if I'm wrong but I should imagine if your browser is being inundated with pop ups that are unrelated to what your looking at they probably aren't contributing to to the site of interest.

I use uBlock Origin on my laptop, and AdGuard on my phone. Both are free, and block everything... well, so far anyway...
And we shouldn't block ads here, they aren't intrusive and we should support the site.
Oh, and while I'm making my mouth go... what else can you buy for the princely sum of 15 quid a year??
