How much memory for PS7?

Just tried the FM Very High Action on my panorama (12.6 jpeg compressed, 49.9 meg on-screen). It took 1 minute and 44 seconds, respectable if not blinding. I think I need more ram.

Thanks all for the assistance

Wendy, are you storing your data on the same disk as your OS ? Is you HDD partitioned ? If it is which partition is the primary scratch disk ?

You have loads of RAM there. I wouldn't invest in more RAM till your settings are optimised.

I use a 256Mb laptop with a slowidh spin speed and manage 50 Mb files with ease. At 160Mb it starts to slo-o-o-o-w down and complain.

No I haven't partitioned the disk, that could be a good idea, thanks.

Wendy -
Split your panorama up into sections (with a selection tool) and sharpen each one separately. You might also consider partitioning your hard disc (as suggested)and giving over one partition to the PS scratch disc. I do this with 500mb of RAM with no problems.

Well I took your advice and here is what happened: First I installed an old 20 gig HD that I had lying around, EIDE but not the fastest and set the PS7 scratch to this, that cut my image sharpening time (FM action as above) from 1:44 to 1:25, then I installed an extra 512 ram (from Offtec, 60). Astonishing...down to 49 seconds! that is a whole minute saved from my first effort. Thanks all, now I seem to have a fast pc!
