I just bought an Olympus om10, please help

4 Apr 2020 11:47PM
Hi everyone, I'm new on the site and I've recently bought a used Olympus OM10.
I just put new batteries in and it doesn't seem to be turning on or making the check batteries beep.
Any advice?

Are the batteries in the right way up?

It's an easy mistake to make. (I speak from experience!)

The batteries should be inserted with the positive end next to the screwed cap (both the same way round..) The positive end is the flat surface, often with the markings of the cell number and a +.
There should be a + marked inside the cap.
Otherwise the terminal inside the camera could be corroded or missing. (Are you using the correct batteries? Should be LR44 or equivalent).
Hope it works.

If they are new fresh batteries and everything is clean then the problem lies inside.

Did it work when you bought it?

It didn't have batteries in it when I got it, so they're new batteries

It seems the camera does not work.

Assuming you bought the camera on the clear understanding it worked, as distinct from spare parts, in the UK (and the EEC) you are entitled to your money back even thought was bought second hand.
Whether you can get your money back is another topic.

With a 6 month warranty from somewhere like Ffordes the asking price is 49.
If parts are still available (unlikely) a repair if it can be done is likely to cost over 100.
