The Mac should be able to play all common video formats. I suspect the DVD contains a PC application rather than cross platform data.

What do you see on the DVD when you double click it in finder?

If you click on tutorial does anything happen?

Do you see the files that reside on the DVD?

It doesn't look good, it's more likely a PC application gives access to the DVD's content, not a good thing considering how many photographers use Macs.

Can you use finder to see what is on the disk.

This tutorial is widely distributed on the internet in lots of different formats - it would help to know what it is you've got

Right.

Have you got the Finder icon in the dock, a sort of cartoon character face ?

Open it up, find Applications, scroll down for Quick Time and double click

Ages since I done this but
Go To System Preferences
Hardware
CD / DVD and click
Should be a dialogue box asking you what you want the computer to do when a video dvd is inserted
Select Open DVD Player from the drop down list, or if this does not work select Other Application and find eithe DVD Player or Quick Time from the Applications folder on your hard drive.
