Many a cut finger whilst camping at festivals or Pork luncheon meat mixed in with a can of beans . Brings back wonderful memories of the early 70's. Dont know why but tastes better than the sliced stuff wrapped in plastic you get nowadays. I remember the typhoid scare attributed to the Argentina corned beef.

There were, a number of years ago, some ring pull opening tins of corned beef but they seem to have died a death and now we only have the crazy Victorian can opening system. Suits the Brexiteers though.

We were quite happy to have a tin of corned beef in our storage cupboard in March 2020 when we went into self isolation and could not get a food delivery for 17 days.

In fact it is still in there!Grin

A few years ago my wife used to produce party food for our guests based on American Brunch. One of the dishes was called "red Flannel Hash" which was a hash based on corned beef and beetroot (a New England recipe). It was one of my favourites. It is not that I would eat this in isolation but there was a variety of hot and cold dishes to choose from. Last time she did this she lined up several family members and friends to help produce the many dishes but I suspect that it may have been the last time as it was quite an effort though obviously worth it for the eaters.

Another vote for traditional canned corned beef (freely available here in France) - and yes, I can open the tins !

During the WWII years if there was a forthcoming marriage in the family we would save up our spare coupons (if any!) to buy a large tin of corned beef for the wedding reception nosh up. It was always gratefully received. Times were hard.
