I shot some photos in jpeg. I entered them in elements. After touching up several photos the usual boxes appear regarding saving them, sometimes it asks where do I want to put this Jpeg, other times it will say where to put this photoshop ? Im confused, I have rechecked to be sure I havnt changed any settings on the camera or my imac? Can anyone please explain what is happening? Thankyou.

Depends on, and is a function of, the editing tools used.

I also use Elements 2019, if I use simple editing tools such as crop, contrast etc then the default file format remains .jpg at the save point.
However, if I use more involved tools (ie. adding a boarder) then the default file save format changes to .psd and needs changing to any other required output.

Hope the above ramble makes sense, or to put it briefly.... it's not you it's the software.

You must of course flatten the image before attempting to save, if your image has more than one layer after editing then will be saved as a photoshop file if you close the image, so if all your intended editing on a particular image is complete, flatten the image and save as a Jpeg.
Hope this helps you. Kind regards, Adrian.Smile
