Jupiter

Last night at midnight the planet Jupiter was fairly high in the sky. Years ago I had a good telescope & could see Jupiter, its rings and some of the moons.
I thought I would try to see what I could do with my Sony DSC HX400V bridge camera with its 1200 mm equivalent lens and image stabilizing!
It was quite difficult, but with everything turned up to max. in camera and processing and cropping, this is the result. Hand held.
Not a great astronomy image but I was impressed)
(The green ring is something to do with the lens.)

Well done Altitude - I have tried but I'm afraid it was just a blur. I wonder if it would help if you tried stacking several shots! I have also been amazed at the brightness of Jupiter at the moment. Quite amazing.

I got this, almost 20 years ago now with an EOS D30 and a Sigma 170-500 at maximum focal length. Once I realised that I'd got some moons and not just one dot I shot out again and took our moon with the same camera/lens to make a composite image.

I still like it enough that it's still on my wall.

Quite right Malc. A vain attempt at humour. 😜

And an excellent read 'it' was, too.
I am a fan of S. King Esq....
