Just how good (or bad) is the Sony 35mm f2.8 za

I've been reading mixed reviews about the Sony 35mm f2.8 za

Although I am considering renting it for the weekend, I'd like to find out what lenses find the best balance between portability and size (i.e., small &
light)

It's incredibly good. It's in my bag with a Zeiss Batis 25, Sony Zeiss 55 and Zeiss Batis 85. it totally holds its own. Have a look in my portfolio where many of my recent photos were taken with the 35. It's small, light and discreet. Turns A7R II into almost a compact.

Thank you for that!

I've also been looking at the Batis lenses - and the Sonnar T* FE 55mm F1.8 ZA!

They are all excellent but if I could only take one out with me it would be the 35. That sweet shop shot is a small part cropped from the original image, it oozes detail (taken with the 35). I bought it here knowing I could return it easily if not 100% happy.

Dog shot taken with the 35, It's a 2.8 not a 1.8 lens but is still able to soften the background, a quick snapshot which I will treasure.
