Kit lens upgrade
I still like A mount Sony DSLR'S and have an A-58, but I feel the standard 18-55 kit lens could be better, Any suggestions for a kit lens up grade, I will check out the second markets after any advice.

50 mm f1.8 is the best upgrade from a kit lens...
Thanks yes agree much better optically but not as useful as a zoom, Mind you 50 mm is quite a useful focal length as would be a 35 mm
Difficult question to answer since we don't know your photographic interests.
You have not said whether you want to buy new or second hand.
There and not many A mount lenses on sale new - though there are plenty secondhand - with a 6 month warranty from specialist second hand retailers.
Some indication of your budget as well as your photographic preferences would be useful.

OK, its for general photography, landscapes, classic car shows, airplane museums, gardens open to the public etc. I intend to buy second hand, hopefully under £225, so will have to surf the used markets. thanks.
Thank you so much Carabosse, that is so useful to see and use as a future reference, since my last post I have managed to find a used Sony 16-105, which hopefully will fill all my needs. and be optically better than the 18-55 kit lens.. I expect the 16-105 will do the A-58 sensor a bit more justice.Thanks every one.

Yes, I have used E Bay before but I now have what I think is a useful zoom for my subject matter, Got it from London Camera Exchange with 6 Months Warranty.
Thank's mate, I checked out quite a few reviews before I took the plunge they all seemed favorable. Its going on my A-58, Will let you know, If I can get some sunny weather pics I will try and post them. But its always good to get other photographers suggestions and ideas.
Lens 16-105 arrived this morning , I sent it straight back, zoom ring was almost seized solid, How can dealers send out stuff like this, it was either not checked or they ignored the problem. They have promised to reimburse me.
So back to the drawing board, I'm now considering a couple of primes instead of a zoom.

Thanks for the heads up on the lens for £114, at that price it suggests its in poor condition, Might look at a used Tamron 17-50, the non stabilised version, it gets very good reviews, problem is, with a non Sony lens, will the camera adjust the lens for the usual optical adjustments, or is it not worth worrying about.
