Results are announced. Landscpe photographer of the year 2014 Winning image is not one I would have chosen. What do you think? Really like Robert Oliver's Bowdown Berries. Each to their own

I think I would have chosen the winning image. It is very abstract which attracts me. I suspect many will find it too processed but it works for me. Bowdon Berries would be my second choice but they are pretty much all good quality.

I would have chosen the winner out of the shortlist presented. However, I also think I'd have bypassed all of them in the first round if I were a judge. Even though I don't do landscapes I see nothing outstanding or unusual amongst the finalists.

I quite like the winner too. It's quite an artistic minimal landscape. Not the typical photo. I quite like 'London Bridge Station' too.

Its nice to see a couple selected from the Peak District, but they are nothing special, I have seen better on this site, I thought one of them was yours Ryan (Bigry)
The winning shot is just too abstract for me and in my opinion doesn't represent a good example of a landscape let alone Landscape photographer of the year. ..............ok, so I may be bitter and twisted cos i didn't get through to the final round with 'Water margin' but I hope the others on here did better with their pics.
There's always next year guys...........maybe something out of focus so you cant tell what it is will work WinkWinkWink

More publicity and more ways to attract people to enter.

There was a time when the winning image would have taken some skill but it's the digital age.

I received an email on Friday letting me know that the image below had received a commendation and would be in the book.

So obviously I think that all the winners are fantastic and beyond any criticism !!! Grin Wink

On a serious note, all I will say, is that like any competition where creative work is being judged the LPOTY is very much at the mercy of the judges subjective opinion. The overall winner is probably not one that would have caught my eye but thats just my opinion.

Nice job Derek and well done. I must say I like the winning image. It makes you think about what it is you are looking at and from where it was taken. I find it engaging in that respect

I'm clearly out of touch with the modern taste in Landscape photography as none of them hold any great attraction for me (as show here)

Maybe its a case of needing to see the original image?

(now Derek's image is one I can appreciate however Smile )

I really like the winning image. A mountain scene with with an unusual feature in the waterfall.
