Landscape Photographer Of The Year announces it will open for entries from the 15th January – 5th April 2020.

Categories for 2020:

Classic View
We are looking for an image that captures the beauty and variety of the UK landscape. An iconic view; a
view along a cliff-side path or of a historic village; a view down a valley; an urban skyline or snow-capped
peaks; maybe showing the drama of our seasons. Recognisable and memorable; a true classic.
Minor digital adjustments only please – the physical integrity of the image must be maintained.

Urban Life
Statistics suggest that up to 80% of the UK population lives in towns or cities. This category really
focuses on the subject - from historic to modern - but no underground car parks, tube stations etc
please – anything urban and of the outdoors is eligible. We will be taking a broad approach subjectwise
– the word ‘urban’ is used as a general theme, so ‘suburban’ areas or country towns are fine.
Minor digital adjustments only please – the physical integrity of the image must be maintained.

Your View
What does the UK landscape mean to you? A stream rushing over pebbles, a foggy day in the Peak
District, fish & chips on a deserted beach, you and your friends on your first big summit. Pretty much
anything goes, as long as it is in the UK and of the outdoors. Use your imagination, as you have the
scope for a very conceptual and personal approach.
Digital manipulation is allowed in this category and creativity is encouraged.

Black and White - New for 2020
This category recognises the continued importance of this genre of photography and its popularity
amongst Landscape Photographer Of The Year entrants. This can include both urban and suburban
landscapes.
Minor digital adjustments only please – the physical integrity of the image must be maintained.

More opportunity for young emerging photographers. Landscape Photographer Of The Year has
announced that young photographers entering the competition (18 or under on 5th April 2020) will
now be able to enter up to five images for free into any category or special award they wish. Additional
bundles of 5 images will also be available to purchase for those wishing to enter more photographs into
the competition.

Following on from an incredibly successful exhibition that toured the UK in 2018 and 2019 visiting 10
cities, Landscape Photographer Of The Year is delighted to be supported by Network Rail again in 2020
who will provide our wonderful exhibition venues. This exhibition offers audiences across the U.K the
opportunity to see the very best in landscape photography from the past year. Network Rail will also
have their own Special Award, Lines In The Landscape. This Award will be presented to the one
photographer who best captures the spirit of today’s rail network as it relates to the landscape
around it

A new website is currently being built by website developers Moore-Wilson. The full site will be
launched in early January 2020, www.lpoty.co.uk . Whilst the website is under construction, competition
