light meters who needs them

i own and use a nikon f80 but i was reading an artical on light meters and i am not sure
if it is something that would still be of use
with the very meters in modern cameras
any ideas

Steve, try and get an incident light reading with your Nikon F80. A separate light meter may seem old fashioned and not much use for todays high speed world but just look around the international sports arenas of today amd look at what all the photographers have round their necks. Thats right a meter !

I record landscapes mostly and incident readings play an important part for vistas. A light meter is an essential piece of kit for me. Don't forget Steve what you are measuring through you SLR is reflected light. John.

The other less expensive but more fiddly option is to use a grey card which gives you similar results to an incident reading using your camera's reflected meter.
