Question Geoff or anyone who knows, I'm thinking my next lens would be the 90mm T&S, I googled the 500C but didn't find owt, did you mean 500D?
You speak so highly of that combination I am intrigued.
Cheers
Steve.

Mmmm...plenty more to ponder...Hadn't really given the 90mm TSE much thought...following that link of Barry's (randomrubble) it seems that I had dismissed it out of hand in terms of how close one can get in....even without the 2x converters..

Thanks, again..

Quote:What about a Canon 50mm F1.8? Anyone tried this combination?

can also say that I use the lens with a 5D. I'm very pleased and shooting in RAW means you cna remove the vignetting when shot wide open with no problem!

I have a 50mm f1.8 (Mk1), and as good as it is, it don't make a geat macro lens. The mk1 focus ring is too small, and the Mk2 is almost unusable.

90mm T&S takes some getting use too IMHO the 500c is a close-up filter.

Done some research off the back of this thread, and the Canon 500D seems to be so good that even Nikon users rate it!

Looks like a viable, lightweight, way to add a (near) macro facility to a regular kit for the less committed. Unfortunately the price is up there with a 50mm Macro. However I've found a very cheap 77mm one on Amazon and ordered it, to use with my 70-200. Hopefully it'll arrive in time for the Epping meet!

Just though I'd say that I've now got a 500D close up lens. Seems to be very good indeed and gives slightly better than half life size with a 70-200 set to 200mm and closest focus. Smaller lighter and cheaper than a proper macro, at 97 including P&P from Amazon it seems like a perfect compromise for someone like me who occasionally does a bit of macro. I hope to get out and use it next weekend for some real photos. Just a shame I didn't have it for the Epping Forest meet...

OK, all the pictures here were shot on a macro lens, it's used professionally on a 20D, and they've all been on a gallery wall at 20X16.

Is it necessary to have a Canon logo on the lens? It's a Sigma 105 EX, not the current one, which is better still.

Campare the figures at http://www.photodo.com/ if you are really fussy about test figures rather than how something performs in real life.
