M discs

Hmm.. interesting...they promise a life of umpteen years, but will there still be devices to “read” them...?! ...and do you have only the one disc....
As an example of “technology” we now have stores not selling DVD players anymore...yet how long ago were we hoodwinked into believing this was the longterm future of watching films...?
I’d prefer to save on SSD hard drives, USB memory chips and/or “cloud” storage (I trust this option the least...! ) and duplicate/triplicate this choice...
Sadly, to my mind, we now have to keep an eye on photo-storage technologies, and shift everything we own to the latest...
Never happened with physical, photographic negatives.......
now we have to think about backing-up on multiple devices to ensure (?) reliable retrieval...

I have used Ashampoo Burning Studio 19 for burning M discs, no problem. 4.7Gb DVD and (Millenniata ??) 25Gb blu-ray discs.
I am also concerned about hardware to read them in future, I have seen too many systems come and go in my lifetime as well.
Darren
I believe it is the writer that has to be M disc compatible, made to a better tolerance for spacing tracks I think?
Long time since I looked into that...

Hi Robertt
I mentioned in previous comment about disc recorder being compatible, is yours?
I know your software is, as I use same version, with M Disc media.

M-DISC™
What is M-DISC™?
M-DISC™ is a new media format designed to permanently archive data. It is less affected by heat, light, and humidity than regular DVD writable media. M-DISC™ media can be read by most standard DVD optical drives. Writing to M-DISC™ media requires an M-DISC READY™ optical drive. You can determine if your drive is M-DISC READY™ as it will be labelled with either M-DISC or M@DISC.

IT WILL be on front of your recorder, if it is compatible: Google again:

Sorry I do not know answer to your query... My gut feeling is that your recorder is incompatable.
I would have included photo of my drives, had I been able to. Both mine are LG devices.

Glad your main drive is M disc compatible. As I was thinking it was a drive problem.
I believe all M discs are write once, as designed for archival storage.
So formatting would be a bad thing?, writing software should take care of 'disc preparation' needs., asking for your needs as it goes.
Your label on M disc packaging will tell you correct spec.
Your Buffalo is M disc compatible:

I was surprised to see it is USB2, I would have thought that was too slow 😂 but then again write speed of blu ray M disc is slowwww. It can write at 24X for CD, so buffering must be OK?

I put my first M-disc in and windows tried to format it, then said it could not complete it. That is what ruined the disc. Next time, I opened Ashampoo first and put a new disc in and it recognised it. It took about 23 minutes to write 21.8GB.So I finally wrote mi first M-disc.
Thank you all for your help.
