Magnetic Modifiers
Looks like people are buying the MagMod thing then using much cheaper Selens modifiers 🤨
I was looking at the MagMod system, but to be honest the price put me off. Perhaps if I didn't have anything else to use that amount of money on...it does seem to be a good alternative.
Ive seen thae at the Photography Show for the last couple of years.
Quite pricey for what they are, but then when some are prepared to pay £2k for a camera and lens perhaps in the big scheme of things it isn't so huge.
If you like the modelling lights of studio flash then becasue the magmod is for speedlights then you have to fly by the seat of your pants as regards the effect of the light modifiers. A point made by John (dudler) when we looked at them at the show.
However, it also depends on what value you put on ease of use and how much you'd actually use it.

Switched all the mobile phones, tablets, Kindles, rechargeable mice, drone controllers and other gubbins to magnetic things like these and was searching to buy a couple more when I came across the MagMod gear.
I read some customer reviews on B&H and people thought they were life changing! I think if I was going to get back into any kind of event photography or start doing fashion outdoors or at shows again I would want something that I can change in an instant or remove instantly. That's what 'attracted' me to the idea. Would have to think hard about that kind of price though.

Magmod are quite popular and a number of people are using the magsphere to spread the light a little, even on outdoor shoots, however like the Gary Fong et al modifiers it is meant to be used indoors when bouncing the flash. The grids are useful but the Magmod one is a little limited in its use (as is a lot of their stuff for speedlights) being oblong and only having one angle, my favourite by far is the Rogue system but that is personal and it doesn't use magnets....
