Can anybody tell me how or why my sandisk cards are now downloading a bunch of files each time I use them.
For example, I took 4 images tonight, when I transfered them to the pc, there were 20+ files on the card, the 4 images, and loads of "other" files, not images just rubbish I think.
its happened a couple of times now.
The card was formatted in camera befor I started tonight and was "blank"

Just as a test, format the card in your camera and, without taking any photographs, remove it from the camera and put it in your card reader connected to the PC. Are there any files on it now?

zuderlcx.cpl
xmqqpqso.exe
ratovrni.cpl
smsmxrad.exe
wyttsftyl.cpl
copy of shortcut ( x 4 )

the names are upper and lower case but its a pain to try and typ it, there are a fe more.
I have no clue as to why it has started doing this.

hi ripley
.cpl files are window "control panel" files, and with the "copy of shortcut" im guessing that somehow you or someone inadvertently copied/created duplications on the card when it was in your PC. its possible that if you are trying to format the card in windows it will not do it as it's reconising them as system files and protecting them and maybe the in camera software is not formatting them because they are not reconised as jpegs/RAW files. Im just guessing here of course. maybe a solution would be to put your card in your reader/laptop and access the "card drive" from "my computer" and delete the files from there. perhaps others will have suggestions also.

best wishes.

Is your anti-virus software up to date, random names like this are often the work of a virus, and they will often copy themselves to any available drive (such as a memory card)
