I always prefer a wet shave, but recently I have been using my Braun electric shaver which must be about 20 years old. I have been looking at Boots, and they have had a series S3133, wet and dry shaver for approx. £50 - i.e. half price of its original selling price. I dithered and now find the price has reverted to £100.
Any recommendations re different make ?
And I do not need suggestions from our female contributors here, Grin, 'cos when I was a young "sprog" in wherever, there was a middle aged woman who used to beat up her husband regularly, and the duty Sgt. used to send 2 two of us young clowns to "sort" her out. The only thing I really recall is that she had more facial hair than me, and it was thicker than a Barbary pirate's, that was the 5.p.m shadow on her. We usually were sent there just after 11.p.m. at night.GrinSmileWink

I bought a Braun Series 3 a week before Christmas and paid £50.

Never used that make before. Only used Wahl and Panasonic. My conclusion is:

Wahl: slightly better shave than Braun but very fragile. Two have broken on me.

Panasonic: well built but a so-so shave.

Braun: Best compromise.

Hope that helps.

Philishave Wet & Dry rechargeable, had it 15 years and only replaced the cutting discs once, although I have not used it for 2 years since growing a beard SmileGrin

I also have a Philishave wet & dry chargeable which I have had for at least 5 years. While in theory you can use it wet i.e. in the shower, I have never done so. I have always use dit dry and had no reason to change. On advantage is that it has a self cleaning feature.

Curiously, I have just added a Braun Series 3 (3090) to a Philips SensoTouch RQ1195 I have used for years, only used the Braun twice so far, not really long enough to give a considered opinion, but typical German build quality (made in Ireland) , looked on Amazon (109.99) but then found the very same one on e-bay at a fraction of the cost. pm me if you want further info.......incidentally both have wet/dry capability...

I use a Philishave. Only problem with it i found was that the replecemant blades cost almost as much as a new shaver.

Currently using a Remmington R5 (sadly not an EOS) which cost about €40 from Amazon.. Seems to be quite good if a bit vicious on the 'neck' (under the chin - and really need the aftershave for that bit). I used to use Philips but kind of got converted to Remmingon with the previous Remmington - tougher, cheaper, longer lasting and better at removing a few days growth of beard although the trimmer did break in the end. It's allegedly completely waterproof . An R5 for about €40 isn't too bad, eh?

Many thanks for all your input. Looks as though I will spend a couple of days looking at the different recommended models, before deciding.

Always had Remington Foil shavers in the past but decided to go with a Braun foil last year. What rubbish. It doesn't shave anywhere near as close, plus I didn't realise how much I'd miss the pop-up detailer.
